Last Games Night of 2016

What better way to spend the last Games Night of 2016 then to celebrate some birthdays and enjoy a few special treats. The gang sang ‘Happy Birthday’ as three special young men blew out the candles, all three celebrating their birthdays within a week and a half of eachother, and then we all got to enjoy tasty cupcakes. There was also a very special treat waiting at The Cafe…owl cookies! Yummmmm!

Thank you to everyone who helped make all the Tuesday Teen Games Night’s of 2016 successful and fun. Teen Gaming night will resume January 3.

Last of the Cooking Classes for 2016

The cooking classes for winter 2016 are now over. What a wonderful time everybody had learning new recipes, how to prepare meals, kitchen safety, tips and tricks on how to cook. Stay tuned for information and dates for cooking classes starting in the New Year.

A huge Thanks goes out to Jill Blackstone for teaching the classes, you have made the last seven weeks the most fun ever! All the young people cannot wait until the cooking classes start again in the New Year.

Another successful ASD Teens in the Kitchen Night

The Owl Cafe in Carleton Place

This week everybody was busy learning four new recipes. The night started off with a group effort making two different flavours of chicken wings, BBQ and breaded parmesan. The group then learned how to make homemade macaroni and cheese. Tonight’s vegetable was squash, which not everybody was excited about, but the group all learned how to prepare and cook it. Desert was a delicious Apple Betty. While dinner was cooking the group got to make and decorate shortbread cookies, which will be saved for a holiday treat plate. Each week the group makes one cookie or square and they will be combined into desert platters for the holidays for each person to take home. The best part of the night was getting to sit down and eat their own culinary delights. What a wonderful group effort put forth by the teens and parents to accomplish so much in only a few hours.

ASD Teens in The Kitchen

At The Owl Cafe in Carleton Place

We had a special guest in the cafe for our ASD Teens in the Kitchen night. Ian, owner of “The Black Tartan” generously volunteered his time to help out with our cooking class. Our menu consisted of spaghetti, homemade meat balls and sauce, garlic bread, cheesecake bites with fresh strawberries and raspberries, and chocolate fudge.

Pizza! Pizza! Pizza!

The teens learned some basic cooking skills, the importance of healthy eating, and kitchen safety while they prepared their very own personal pizzas and salads. These classes are designed to teach cooking skills that will give teens semi-independent living skills. Everybody had a wonderful time listing their favourite foods, helping prep ingredients and assembling their personal pizzas. They all agreed the best part of the night was getting to eat and are very excited for next week when they will be learning to cook spaghetti.
